Infrastructure is the lifeline of the hydrogen economy. Underground pipelines transport the hydrogen from the production sites or import ports to the consumers and storage facilities – safely and efficiently. The about 575-kilometre starting network connects production and consumption points in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Berlin. The principle of using existing pipeline infrastructure enables rapid scalability to large H2 capacities and provides a strong foundation for regional and international expansion. The connection to Salzgitter and Eisenhüttenstadt is already planned, as well as to Poland, the Czech Republic and Denmark.
ONTRAS and GASCADE are also the two companies that launched doing hydrogen. As the initiators, they are instrumental in building a strong platform for the hydrogen economy in eastern Germany.
